Surprisingly simple and very good. A delicious holiday dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 Sheet of Puff pastry
  • 1 l. of Milk
  • 3 Eggs
  • 160 g. of Sugar
  • 100 g. of Maizena (or corn starch)
  • 2 small pack of Vanilla Sugar (sucre vanille)
  • 3 Tsp of Vanilla extract
  • 1 Vanilla bean (optional)

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven at 350F
  2. Scrub a pie plate with butter, then sprinkle flour.
  3. Lay the puff pastry in the pie plate, then using a fork, pick the pastry.
  4. Place the plate into the fridge
  5. In a large bowl, place the corn starch, the 3 eggs, the vanilla extract and 125 ml of milk and mix (manual or electric) well
  6. Split the vanilla bean and place it with the rest of the milk, the vanilla sugar, the sugar in a pan
  7. Bring these to a boil
  8. Once the milk is boling pour over the egg mixture while mixing
  9. Place back on the stove at low heat for a few minutes to get the preparation to thicken a tad, a couple of minutes at most
  10. Take the pie plate out of the fridge and pour the preparation into the plate. Make sure to remove the vanilla bean.
  11. Place the pie plate into the oven for about 40 minutes at 350 F
  12. Check the Flan a few minutes before the time is up, if necessary place an aluminium foil on top of it for the last few minutes.
  13. Take out of the oven and let it cool completly before serving
  14. Keep in in the fridge after that
